1.6M Pounds Meat RECALLED — THESE Hot Dogs, Bacon at Risk

Federal officials have issued their highest-level recall classification for nearly 1.6 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat products sold nationwide, warning consumers that eating the affected items could cause serious health consequences or death. The massive recall covers popular hot dogs, bacon, brisket, and ham products distributed to stores across America and overseas.

Temperature Failure Sparks Nationwide Alert

Kayem Foods Inc. voluntarily recalled approximately 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products after a warehouse cooling system failed between March 31 and October 7. The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the problem following a retail customer complaint on October 1 about warm product temperatures upon delivery. The malfunction caused temperature deviations during storage, creating conditions where dangerous bacteria could multiply to life-threatening levels.

The recalled products bear establishment numbers EST. M/P 7839, EST. P 20935A, and EST. M 9520 inside the USDA inspection mark. Kayem has published a nine-page list of affected items, including Kayem Beef and Pork Hot Dogs, Kayem Double Smoked Thick Cut Bacon, Kayem Slow Smoked Beef Brisket, Genoa Hot Ham, Al Fresco Roasted Pepper and Asiago Chicken Sausage, and Triple M Boneless Ham Steaks.

Products Shipped Across America

The compromised meat and poultry products reached retail stores and foodservice locations nationwide, with international shipments sent to Hong Kong. Federal inspectors assigned the recall their most severe classification, indicating a reasonable probability that consumption could trigger serious adverse health consequences or death. While no confirmed illnesses have been reported yet, officials remain concerned that affected products may still sit in consumer refrigerators across the country.

What Families Must Do Now

Kayem Foods stated the company has corrected the cooling system malfunction and initiated the recall out of abundant caution for consumer safety. Federal authorities urge anyone who purchased these products to immediately check their refrigerators and freezers. Do not consume any affected items. Instead, throw them away or return them to the store for a refund. Consumers worried about potential illness should contact their healthcare provider immediately. The temperature abuse during storage could have allowed harmful bacteria to grow to dangerous levels, even though the products may appear and smell normal.
